Mount Akagi (赤城山, Akagiyama) is one of the famous mountains of Gunma (上毛三山, Jōmō-sanzan) along with Mount Myōgi and Mount Haruna. Akagiyama is particularly popular in October when the leaves turn red and Lake Onuma can be seen from the viewpoints. It takes approximately 3-4 hours to climb from the car park near the lake to the summit and back. There are a number of ridges and peaks along the way, the highest point being Kurobisan at 1,828 meters.
