Housed within a traditional 1893 tobacco wholesaler’s warehouse, the Kawagoe Kurazukuri Museum (川越市蔵造り資料館) offers a rare internal look at the city’s iconic fireproof architecture. This small museum displays authentic tools used by local merchants and provides a fascinating glimpse into life in Kawagoe during the Edo period. While there is a limited amount to see inside, it is well worth stopping in as you wander down the historic warehouse street—if only to appreciate the massive timber beams and the incredible thickness of the clay walls that saved the district from the Great Fire of 1893.
